What do I do With a Website Anymore?

10 August 2024

I've been at a loss for what to do with this website, honestly. I feel as though social media has reshaped the way we communicate online into something that's about creativity of short text-based content, rather than overarching projects designed to convey a complex message. It's taking me longer than I anticipated to find the part of me that used to revel in these types of projects. It would be a lot easier to just type a bunch of funny one-liners into this site, but the nature of a personal website means that less people see it, so what would be the point of doing it here, rather than on a site like Bluesky?

I think I want to use this like I did when I was younger, to catalog my creative endeavors and get comfortable with putting creative work—even work that isn't ideal—out there for public consumption. Of course, that too has been subsumed by social media to the point where an instagram account would be much more effective at getting my work out there, but is the point to be seen by the most people? I honestly don't know. The internet has changed so much since the days of personal websites—as as my self-expression—that I really need to think about what I want my creative projects to be for and about.
